Did Karen plan to take Komen down?

The way that this entire saga unfolded points to the work of a political master. While I have no love lost for the Susan G. Komen foundation, if I were their board, I would be angry and sheepish about having my organization used as a political stepping stone and then left as collateral damage for an ambitious self-serving culture crusader. Make no mistake: we’ve not heard the last of Karen Handel. And when she surfaces to tell her story, people should remember: she’s not the victim, she’s a sophisticated political operator who may have gotten exactly what she wants.
I guess one has to ask is she trying to be this election's Sarah Palin?

Rodney,
I expect to see more articles like this trying to make Handel the scapegoat for Komen overstepping its political boundaries. This is an attempt at damage control by Komen.
The hierarchy of Komen knew what they doing when they hired her. Brinker (as a GOP insider) had the love and backing from the GOP party and even has a medal to prove it.
Brinker and her organization waded into the political fray in a presidential election year to further divide this country....and was met with a backlash that she did not expect because she surrounds herself with like-minded people and was foolish enough to think that the majority of women would support their religious rightwing political move.
In other words, I am not buying what this article is selling.... not at all.

I agree MCG, she only took Komen where they wanted to go and then they lied to cover up that fact.
I suspect that over the next 6 months you will see their partners start to pull back. Corporations just can not afford to be involved with these types of political controversies.

What do you bet that she wants to run for president?
What do you bet that I won't vote for her.
I heard the Catholic church is hiring.

Severance packages routinely come with gag orders—stipulations on what the person leaving the organization can and cannot say about the conditions under which they left. While no one outside of Komen, Handel and their lawyers are privy to the conditions under which this offer was made, if the norm prevails, accepting it would prevent Handel from leveraging her new role as the darling of the culture war crowd.
I had not considered this before. Severance as silence blackmail. Now that explains all the executives' golden parachutes.
Even if damaging Komen was Handel's surreptitious goal, it could not have been accomplished without the unwitting complicity of Brinker. There are still heads to roll.
